GUIDE – Website – Templates and Pages

It’s really easy to use but its handy to start by understanding some core ideas.

Templates

A template is made up of a header, a body and a footer and allows you to create different templates for different pages. If you have a layout/information you want to use on multiple pages using a template means you don’t have to individually replicate the template layout and content on each page. You could have one template or multiple templates depending on what you require.

In the examples below, each page is using a different template. Each of these templates is also using different layouts:

The sections outlined in orange show what content is being dictated by the template. The layout and content on the template will appear on every page that uses the template.

To access templates under the WEBSITE menu click on Pages. At the top of the page click on Templates. To start creating a new template click Add Template.

Give the template a name and select a layout for each of the 3 sections. You can add as many layouts as you wish.

Once you have selected the layouts for each section you will then need to select which area will be specified for content. This is where your page will be inserted when you create it. You can only select one area to be specified for content. This would usually be the body of the template. You can then add any content you would like to appear on the template.

To use a template you should select it from the drop down when creating your page (https://help.evessio.com/article/140-guide-website-creating-a-page-and-adding-content).

If you want to change the template a page is using you can do so by clicking on the page and clicking the blue pencil beside Template Page. Please note that if you do this you may need to rearrange the content you already have on the page.

Pages

Pages are inserted into the area you have specified for content.

To create a page under the WEBSITE menu click on Pages. Here you will see a list of all the pages on your website.

Beside each page name is a small symbol:

The cog symbol means that the page is a system generated page such as “Page not found”. You can’t remove these pages or change their slug but you can change the name of the page and add content.

The house symbol marks the default page for your website. This is usually the homepage but can be any page you wish. If someone visits your site without requesting a specific page this is the page they will be directed to.

The page symbol means it is a normal page you have created. You can edit the page content, slug, name or delete it if you wish.

To create a new page click +Add Page. Give the page a name, select the template you wish to use and click save.

You can now add layouts and content to your page.

To preview how your page will look click preview. Once you are happy with your page click save. When you want you page to go live on your website click publish.
