Products: Max Items and Customer Limits

Note

Limits are not applied when:

  • You are in "Test Mode"
  • You are logged in as an "Admin"

Product sales can be limited to a total maximum as well as per customer with choices on the object for the limits (Items or Units).

Limits can also be placed at the Product Type level - applies to all items or each product item - applies only to individual items.

The object of the limit - can be per Item or per Unit

  • Per Item
    • Product items are things like "Ticket for 1", "Table of 10", "Single seat" or "Awards Nomination"
    • These items are made up of "Units" e.g. a "Table of 10" would be 10 Units (10 Seats)
  • Per Unit
    • Sometimes products are actually "bundles" of units e.g. "5 Tickets" (5 units) or "Table of 10" (10 units)
    • It may be better to think sometimes of limits by unit rather than product item when there are a mix of products with different unit counts. e.g. For a gala dinner event where there may be: "Table of 12", "Table of 10" and "Single Seat" products but a total 300 seats available in the venue. Setting the Maximum available in terms of Units (seats) ensures there is no over sell

The type of limit - overall maximum of per customer

  • Maximum available
    • Use this option to set a maximum on the total number of things which can be sold across all customers and all transactions
    • e.g. An event may have just 1 product Item: "Ticket for 1", you can set set the Maximum Available to 500 Items to ensure that no more than 500 tickets in total are sold.
  • Per Customer
    • Set limits for individual users who purchase products

The location of the Limit - set for all products of a particular type or individually per product item

  • Product Type
  • Product Item
