Widgets- How to create a pop-up widget

Pop-ups are used to display messages, forms or other content in a pop-up window, such as “Sign up for our newsletter” or "Entries close soon" but can be used to display any content you wish. You can:

  • Embed another page in the pop-up widget e.g. a page containing a webform
  • Add content when creating the widget e.g. text, images, download links

A pop-up can be added to any page or template and can be triggered:

  • Upon loading the page. You can also choose for the pop-up to be triggered after a certain amount of page loads e.g. triggered every 5 page loads
  • When a button is clicked
  • Both

To add a pop-up widget:

  1. Create a page or locate the page you wish to add the pop-up to under WEBSITE>Pages>Pages.
  2. If you want to trigger the pop-up using a button select “Add content” in the column you would like the button to appear. If you would like the pop-up to show automatically add it to any column you wish.
  3. Click Widgets> +Pop-up – simple.
  4. Give the pop-up a title and if you choose to display it select how you would like the title to be aligned. If you don’t want to embed another page into the pop-up you should add the content you wish to display in the “Content” box. If you both add content here and embed a page this content will appear above the embedded page.
  5. Select what size you would like your pop-up to be. The size will determine the maximum width of the pop-up window. Select a size which best suits your pop-up content.
  6. If you would like the pop-up to be opened using a button (this can be as well as or instead of opening automatically) tick the “Add button to open popup?” box and enter the text you would like to appear on the button.

  7. If you would like the pop-up to appear automatically when a user loads the page tick the “Open popup automatically?” box.
  8. If you don’t want the pop-up to appear straight away in the “Auto popup delay” field enter how long you would like to delay the pop-up in seconds.
  9. If you want the pop-up to appear every time a user visits the page you should leave the “Auto popup frequency" box empty. Otherwise you should add how often you would like the popup to appear e.g. once every 5 page loads.
  10. If you would like to embed a page into the pop-up e.g. If you would like to place a web form in the pop-up you should first add it to a page, ensure you have already created the page and tick the “Embed page in popup?” checkbox. Select the page you would like to be added. The system will remove the header and footer content so only the body of the page will be shown in the pop-up.
  11. If you want to add a link button to the pop-up click “+New Link button”, add the button text, select or provide the link it should go to and click “Save”. If you want to add a button that has already been created click on “Re-use other links” and select it from the list. If you want to add multiple buttons you can then drag and drop them into the order you want them to appear.
  12. Click “Save” and once you have ensured the pop-up has a blue tick beside it click “Add selected”.
  13. Remember to save and publish any changes you make.
